The AIFF industry events are designed for everyone, whether you’re an emerging filmmaker, an award-winning maestro, or simply curious about the film business. Each educational session will provide its participants with invaluable insights into film pre-production, production and post-production.

masterclass
MASTER CLASS (MC)

Take a journey with visiting actors, directors, writers, producers, editors, designers and cinematographers, as they share the “tricks of the trade” that helped bring some of their favorite productions to life. Previous guests include director Paul Verhoeven (Total Recall, Robocop), and editor Pietro Scalia (Gladiator, Good Will Hunting).

Cinephiles and filmmakers alike engage in healthy dialogue, while sharing tips for success and problem-solving scenarios on a broad range of industry topics such as acting in independent films, film marketing/distribution, and gender equality in the motion picture industry.

IN CONVERSATION WITH (ICW)

Moderated by our visiting press, these are intimate, in-depth discussions with emerging and established filmmakers, or tributes to special festival guests. This highly attended series has featured, among others, actress Patricia Clarkson (The Maze Runner, Pieces of April) and producer Randall Emmett (Lone Survivor, 2 Guns).

First-time Dutch documentary filmmaker Sebastian Hofer will present a world premiere screening of his culinary-themed debut film Loke Ami Stima (What I Love), and discuss the project’s inspiration, challenges, and how these experiences will influence his next project.

Aruban filmmaker Shamira Raphaëla discusses the creative choices in making a personal documentary where her involvement, as the filmmaker, became one of the most important elements of the film’s story.

Film buyers and sales agents will share points of view on the types of films they prefer to buy at festivals, how filmmakers can increase awareness for their films, what makes films more attractive festivals, and how digital self-distribution helps (or hurts) a film’s marketability.
